Fishing Report

January – March 2019

What a strange Winter it’s been. It’s hard to predict what the first 3 months of 2019 will be like due to the cold weather we’ve had. In January, I’ll still be chasing Trout and Reds in Upper Galveston Bay. Live bait will be hard to find so I’ll mostly be throwing soft plastics. February should be taken off the calendar. Historically this is a cold, rainy, windy month. I hate it. In March, I begin my popular “Family Fun Trips”. On these trips I target the early spawners that come into the Bay from the Gulf. These are the great eating Gulf Whiting, eating size Black Drum with the occasional 20-30 pounder. I also get good numbers of Gulftrout on these trips. I use fresh dead shrimp for this fishing. The fish are easy to catch and great for the kids. On these trips, I usually catch 40 – 70 good eaters. I furnish everything, rods, reels, bait, and fish cleaning, all at a reduced price. Spring Break is a good time to take the kids on one of these trips. I run these trips at $350.00 for 3 persons, this is $100.00 less than other times of the year. I usually run these trips thru the end of April. Beginning in May, I’ll be back to chasing Specks and Reds. If you might be interested in one of the “Fun Trips” don’t wait too long to book. These trips fill up quickly. If you have any questions, give me a call. I hope everyone has a great 2019 and I’m looking forward to a great fishing year.

It’s not too early to book the Summer Trout trips using the live croakers for bait. June thru August is the time to go on these trips. If you haven’t caught Trout on live croakers, you’re in for a big thrill. I’ve been doing this for over 30 years and I still get the thrill.

I’ll be seeing you on the water, BUT NOT TOO CLOSE.
